ABSTRACT
A atividade assistida por animais (AAA) é a interação entre animais e seres humanos, com auxílio de um cuidador do animal, visando à melhora do paciente. No Brasil, nas instituições hospitalares, esta ainda é uma prática pouco usual. Diante disso, objetiva-se identificar o perfil sociodemográfico dos pacientes, acompanhantes e profissionais da saúde envolvidos na área pediátrica de um hospital universitário e a sua opinião sobre a AAA. Os dados foram obtidos através da aplicação de um questionário estruturado e analisados no programa SPSS versão 17.0 for Windows. Pode-se identificar que há uma aceitação dos respondentes em relação aos animais, mostrando-se abertos a esta prática. Esta investigação nos permite inferir que as instituições de saúde poderiam se utilizar da AAA como ferramenta complementar de tratamento pediátrico, pois o mesmo seria bem recebido entre os envolvidos neste ambiente hospitalar.
Animal-assisted activity (AAA) is the interaction between animals and humans, with the help of an animal caretaker, aiming at the improvement of the patient. In hospital institutions in Brazil this is still an unusual practice. Therefore, the aim here is to identify the socio-demographic profi le of patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals involved in the pediatric area of a university hospital and their views on AAA. Data were obtained by applying a structured questionnaire and analyzing the responses with SPSS (17.0 for Windows). We found that there is acceptance of animals by the respondents, who are open to this practice. This research allows to infer that health institutions could use AAA as a complementary tool for pediatric treatment, as it would be well received among those involved in this hospital setting.
